"Amla is better than Vitamin C of the synthetic form." ~ Andrew, Illinois

"It has really helped me throughout the year, especially the winter. I don't get sick as much as I use to." ~ Nancy, Illinois

"Amla is my new favorite supplement! A quality vitamin C can easily be absorbed, can cleanse the cells of impurities and remove toxins via the body's circulation. I am on my second bottle now and I can say that it has improved my energy. Although others around me are getting sick, I have stayed healthy. ~ Cindy, Illinois"

    Amla:
    Nature's Most Powerful Antioxidant

Amla - The Strongest Anti-Aging Rejuvenative

Amla, the Indian Gooseberry, is considered a sacred tree in India since the fruit is a well-known potent antioxidant and is very nourishing. Because of its sour taste, the best way to take Amla is in supplement form.

Amla is the richest source of Vitamin C in natural form (30 times the amount of Vitamin C found in oranges), and contains rich minerals, amino acids and pectin.

What is most important is that Amla's antioxidant Vitamin C, unlike synthetic Vitamin C, does not lose its value through processing due to the presence of tannins in Amla.

Because of this, Amla is found to be one of the strongest rejuvenatives in Indian traditional medicine. It is referred to in ancient text as the best medicine to prevent aging.

It's worth emphasizing again: Amla contains the richest Vitamin C that does not get oxidized because its tannins retard the oxidation.

But, there is much more that Amla has to offer.

Ayurvedic Use of Amla to Lower Cholesterol

Achieving lower cholesterol is one of the best ways to protect yourself from heart attack and stroke. Cholesterol can build up and form deposits in your arteries. These cholesterol deposits can clog arteries or, in some cases, completely block.

HDL is often called the "good" kind of cholesterol because it helps remove unneeded cholesterol from the body. If your HDL is below 40, you are at high risk.

LDL is the "bad" cholesterol; it's made up primarily of fat and is a particular risk factor for heart disease. If your LDL is 160 or above, you are at high risk.

If any of your cholesterol numbers are in the high risk category, you're at an increased risk for heart disease.

Amla's pectin decreases serum cholesterol in human beings. It inhibits platelets aggregation and lowers cholesterol levels. Amla has been shown in studies to reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol by 16% while increasing HDL (good) cholesterol by 25%. It also regulates blood sugar and prevents lipid peroxidation.

Three clinical studies found that 500 mg of Amla a day for three months raised levels of HDL cholesterol and lowered triglyceride and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. This is a huge achievement in supporting the three critical markers of cardiovascular health.

There is really nothing else out there besides high-dose fish oil that naturally lowers triglyceride levels. And raising HDL is one of the hardest things to do, but is the most important thing in terms of our cholesterol health. Although it is one of the hardest things to accomplish, Amla does it well, and with great ease.

Amla Reduces Your Risk of Gallstones

Amla is a gift of nature to mankind. Gallstones develop when there is an excess of cholesterol in the bile. Simply taking Amla daily can cut your risk of gallstones by nearly half, because Vitamin C is a factor in helping to convert cholesterol into bile acids in the liver.

    Other Ayurvedic Use of Amla

Amla has anti-bacterial and astringent properties that help prevent infections and heal ulcers. It is used as a laxative to relieve constipation.

In Ayurveda, Amla is used as a cardiotonic, antipyretic, antidiabetic, cerebral and gastrointestinal tonic. It raises the total protein level and balances the body weight due to positive nitrogen balance.

Amla is a very powerful anti-inflammatory herb. It is useful with eye problems especially with inflammations. In recent Ayurvedic studies, Amla is the most frequently used as anti-cataract medicine perhaps because of the fact that Amla is a potent inhibitor of free radicals, one of the causes of cataracts.

In Ayurvedic language, Amla is specific to pitta due to its sweet taste and cooling energy. However, Amla is thought to balance both vata and pitta by virtue of its sour taste, and kapha due to its astringent taste and drying action.

Amla is traditionally used in India as a rejuvenative to promote longevity, and to enhance digestion, relieve constipation, reduce fever, purify blood, reduce cough, alleviate asthma, strengthen heart function, benefit eyes, stimulate hair growth, enliven the body, and enhance intellect.

    Amla and Energy

Since first extracted 80 years ago, Vitamin C has been deemed essential for life and for maintaining optimal health and well-being. It is the world's most widely consumed nutritional supplement. It has potent antioxidant properties and plays critical role in facilitating essential biochemical reactions throughout the body.

Vitamin C is also necessary for the synthesis of the inter cellular cement "collagen". Collagen is responsible for keeping the cells of the body together. Deficiency of Vitamin C makes a person lethargic and susceptible to infections, rheumatic pains and intestinal disorders. Consuming Amla removes this lethargic feeling and makes one vibrant and upbeat.

Because human body can only synthesize and store a certain amount of vitamin C, the body soon is depleted of it if fresh supplies are not consumed. Vitamin C, therefore, must be supplied through dietary source or supplements.   Vitamin C, however, is a water-soluble nutrient that is quickly oxidized and excreted by the body, therefore its efficacy is limited.

The rich Vitamin C contained in Amla does not get oxidized because its tannins retard the oxidation.

  • Dietary and Life Style Recommendations

To regulate your cholesterol without drug, the following life style guidelines are highly recommended:

      Dietary Fiber:

To help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, you may also want to avoid or reduce saturated fats (usually found in animal products like meats, eggs, and dairy), and trans fats, which are formed when hydrogen is added to vegetable oil (think French fries and doughnuts).

Research has shown that increasing "soluble fiber" by 5 to 10 gram a day reduces LDL cholesterol by about five percent. Soluble fiber can be found in oats, peas, beans, apples, and citrus fruits. Insoluble fiber can be found in whole-grain foods, wheat bran, many vegetables, and fruit with skin.

Evidence suggests that soluble fiber is more effective at lowering cholesterol, but both types of fiber are important for your health.

So fill up on the healthy fats found in vegetable oils, nuts, and avocados, and cut back on higher-fat foods like red meat, whole milk, and of course, those tempting chips and pastries.

      Exercise

Even moderate exercise is enough to boost HDL (good) cholesterol and lower LDL (bad) cholesterol. Study showed an increase in good HDL cholesterol (and a decrease in LDL and total cholesterol) for those who walked or jogged about 8 miles a week.
